U.S. 89 construction is anticipated to begin spring 2020 and extend through 2023. The project will fully reconstruct and widen U.S. 89 to 6 lanes between Main Street in Kaysville and S.R.193 in Layton. The project will also build two bridges and four interchanges over U.S. 89, extend the frontage road system and add a new 3-mile extension of Gordon Avenue to connect with U.S. 89.
Mountain Road One-Way Operations:
- Beginning April 6, a temporary traffic signal will be installed on Mountain Road near the intersection with U.S. 89 and 200 North/400 North. This signal will allow one lane of traffic on Mountain Road at a time. This signal is expected to be in place for approximately two weeks.
- Access between U.S. 89 and Mountain Road will remain open. Please pay attention and obey the signal.
- Crews will relocate over 1.5 million cubic yards of dirt around the project area during the project. That is enough to fill Disney’s Epcot Center 20 times over. Please expect trucking operations throughout construction.
- UTA has closed bus stops directly on U.S. 89 but will continue service from the park and ride lots at Antelope Drive in Layton and 200 North/400 North in Fruit Heights.
Throughout construction, two lanes will be maintained in each direction on U.S. 89 during peak travel times. Nighttime and Sunday daytime lane closures are planned. Work will occur around the clock to reduce the overall project duration.
