UDOT’s Bridge Deck Replacement Project on US-40 over the Provo River to Resume

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) advises drivers to plan ahead for eastbound delays on US-40 north of Heber City beginning Monday, May 1. US-40 will be reduced to one eastbound (southbound) lane 24 hours a day through early August while crews complete work to replace the driving surface on the bridge over the Provo River.

“This project helps keep US-40 – one of our state’s most important highways – in good condition,” said Craig Hancock, UDOT project manager. “By replacing the bridge driving surface, we are ensuring that drivers can continue to rely on this bridge for years to come.”

As part of the project, UDOT will implement a highway crossover, which will shift all traffic from the eastbound lanes into the westbound lanes while crews replace the eastbound bridge deck. The crossover will begin as early as May 6, 2023, and is necessary to ensure the safety of drivers and construction crews. Motorists should expect moderate to heavy travel delays on eastbound US-40 during the afternoon commute.

This is one of more than 200 highway construction projects taking place in Utah during 2023 that includes a separate concrete repair project on US-40 in Summit County which is slated to get underway later in May.
