Order Permits Page


On this page, you identify the Vehicle to permit, the types of permits the Vehicle needs, the load the Vehicle will haul, and other general permit information.


Options Section

Permit Start Date:  Enter the date on which the Permit(s) should become effective. The default is today. Use mm/dd/yyyy format.

Permit Type: Click to place a checkmark for each type of Permit required for the Vehicle.

  • Utah Temporary Fuel and Utah Temporary Registration Permits are issued in lieu of fuel tax and registration fees, respectively. They are valid for 96 hours.
  • Purchase Overweight and/or Oversize Permits whenever a vehicle's weight and/or size will exceed Utah's legal limits:

Width:

8.5 feet

Length:

Single Unit - 45 feet
  Semitrailer - 48 feet
  Double Trailer - 61 feet
  Stinger-Steered Automobile Transport - 75 feet
  All other combinations - 65 feet

Overhang:

Front - 3 feet.  Rear - 6 feet

Gross Vehicle Weight:

80,000 pounds

Load Type:  Choose a Load Type whenever you order an Overweight and/or Oversize Permit. If the specific load to be hauled is not found in the list, then choose DIVISIBLE LOAD or NON-DIVISIBLE LOAD.

Vehicle Configuration:  You must indicate whether the Vehicle to be permitted will be operated as a single unit or as part of a combination of vehicles.


Vehicle Section

Permits are issued for the Power Unit, except for Utility Poles, which are issued to the trailer. There are 2 ways to indicate the Vehicle to permit:

  • Type the information by hand, or 
  • Click on the Vehicle List button

The Vehicle List is sorted by Unit Number. If you find the Vehicle in the list, click on its Unit Number to populate the Vehicle fields. If you cannot find the Vehicle, dismiss the pop-up by clicking on 'Back to Order Permits' in the sidebar.

After selecting from the Vehicle List, you may change any erroneous or outdated Vehicle information.

Unit Number:

Assigned by the Carrier.  Required

VIN:

Enter the full Vehicle Identification Number.  Required

Year:

Enter the 4-digit year that the Unit was manufactured.  Required

Make:

Choose the Vehicle Make from the list. Choose 'Unknown' if the Make is not listed.  Required

License:

Enter the Plate number.  Required

State:

Choose the License Plate state or province.  Required

Registered Gross Weight:

If obtaining an Oversize and/or Overweight Permit, you must enter the registered weight in pounds.

Reg Expire Date:

Enter the expiration date for license registration.  Required

**Note**

When the Load Type is Utility Poles, the Make is 'TRAILER' and registered weight is not required.

SME Type:  If the Unit is considered Special Mobile Equipment, such as a crane or concrete pumper, then indicate its type by choosing it from the list.

Tow Truck Classification:  If the Unit is a Tow Truck, choose its classification.

After populating all required fields, click the Next button when you are ready to proceed with the Order.
